I started the month visting Madrid for the first time.
It rained almost without pause. The roof of my apartment leaked onto my bed.

Despite the weather the city seemed great, although a bit impenatrable without a local to really get us under the skin. I rarely get much out of doing the obvious sites but I did have to visit the Reina Sofia gallery to see Guernica en presencia. Whilst their there was a major exhibition of the work of Maruja Mallo who I hadn't known previously but who had some amazing pieces.

Her work was so various it was hard to believe it was all the work of one artist, above are just some examples of a particularly striking phase.

I loved this note of hers on working out all the different possible combination of two dancing figures.
